I worked at Whole Foods Market full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great cheese, met some great people (including my BFF), the pay was excellent for food retail

    Cons

After being bought by venture capitalists, the values have gone down the tubes. TMs are not appreciated for their experience; regional leadership simply wants yes-men. Anyone below store leadership level who even has a question about new programs or products is drummed out. OSHA and food safety violation fines are considered part of the cost of doing business, not a bellweather to change practice. Don't believe the hype - there's a reason many TMS that started before 2007 are gone or fleeing -the company simply doesn't walk the talk like they used to.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at who is in regional leadership, both team-based and overall. They are stifling questions and growth among team member by booting people who don't drink their kool-aid. There's a reason comp stores are flat - you need to figure it out in order to grow and or survive. Be proactive, not reactive like you are. it's not 1998 - you're not king of the hill any more, and customers know that the Driscoll strawberries you charge $5.99 for are the same as anywhere else at $3.99.
