I have been working at Whsmith full-time (more than 8 years)

I was first employed at 16 as holiday staff but stayed on to work there for 8 years (either full time or part time) whilst completing my education at school and university. The staff I worked with were great over the years. It's great for a job at 16 as you get to interact with customers/staff and be introduced into the world of work. If you like working there and get trained, you can move up and become managers, but you have to really want to work in retail.

Sometimes I didn't get enough hours when I really needed them. It depends on the need. It can be a stressful environment and very fast paced. Customers can be rude. Pay not great. Having to push products on customers that they really don't want or need just to reach goals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Core values of the company seem to have been lost through the years. With a struggling economy management always seem to want better results, this can be difficult and sometimes I think they lose sight of that.
