I have been working at Widen Enterprises full-time (more than 8 years)Pros
It's important to recognize that Widen is really two almost completely separate businesses, premedia, and a software business. It is unfortunate some reviews on here reflect negatively on Widen coming from the viewpoint of the premedia side, which now represents a minority of the business and is in a declining industry in general.
The software side of the business is thriving. We have a wonderful culture of highly intelligent, driven developers, QA, project managers and supporting staff. The immediate management, as well as upper management, have done an excellent job in the last several years of listening carefully to employee concerns in order to bring up satisfaction in the software group as much as possible (as well as the overall company). Confidential internal satisfaction surveys they have been conducting for years come back really good. Ridiculously good. Pay in the early years was not great but it has caught up and seems pretty good these days. Our office space was redone last year as an open concept with many themed meeting rooms. It's a great space, we even have a keg!
Management works to keep people from getting burned out by rotating them among different products and feature teams. Our approach to development has been described by some as laid-back, and there are those who are uncomfortable not having more well-defined chunks of development work. I personally like this style, but you do need to be self-driven in getting your work done.
The company's focus as a marketing technology company has sharpened recently and they have tried very hard to immerse everyone in the world of marketing software in order to bring new ideas forth and give us a better direction for existing products. I think the future for Widen's software is very bright.Cons
Obviously being a small company, opportunities to "move up" are limited. As most of my co-workers seem more interested in their work than some fancy title, this generally isn't a problem.Advice to ManagementAdvice
The focus on building a competitive featureset and an attractive UI are obviously important, but don't let that work prevent needed backend improvements from getting done. Support for conferences has been good over the years, don't let that slip as many important parts of our software and processes have come out of them. Transparency from upper management under Matthew's leadership has been wonderful.RecommendsPositive OutlookApproves of CEO
