I have been working at Winona Health part-time (More than 3 years)

Most of the staff I worked with were very dedicated, caring, and compassionate people. Smaller hospital means less staff, which can be nice. It can feel rewarding to be recognized easily by many staff rather than feeling like one in a million. Most of the people working there genuinly want to see this hospital succeed and treat patients incredibly well.

Older staff can "bully" younger staff and get away with it because they have seniority and the issue is often left up to the person being bullied. The LEAN process looks nice on paper but completely ignores the human element. Meeting at a specific time to look over a board that doesn't change for days on end does not provide ongoing learning. It would make more sense to make the entire board a short process that can be addressed during/right before report at change of shift with only addressing new issues. Managers upon managers upon managers. There is so much middle management, it feels comedic. The focus should be how our patients are actually doing, not on how much busywork can be compiled by the growing list of managers. Scheduling is inappropriate. Vacation requests are supposed to be responded to within two weeks, however, they are not addressed until the schedule is posted. Nurses and aides will often be placed on the schedule working 7+ days in a row. When they approach someone about these schedules being too gruling, they are told that they must find their own replacement. This makes staff exhausted and burns them out quickly. It is also dangerous for the patients.

    Advice to Management

Please listen to the staff more. You have wonderful Doctors, PA's, NP's, RN's, LPN's, and CNA's that work there. When turnover continues to remain high and census remains low, maybe you should realize your current system is not working.
