    I worked at Winston Retail as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

    The best thing about working with this company is that you can set your own hours. It is also a good place to start learning about representing a beauty or clothing line. Also, working within the retail stores allows you to meet and work with some great people.

    Cons

    This is probably one of the most unorganized organizations I've worked with. Training for representatives was lacking, and most of the time I had to supplement my knowledge by doing my own research. Printed versions of product information were not provided. Reps had to print those at their own expense. Product samples were also usually not provided. I was asked to train and sell products I had never tried. System used to submit reports was outdated and difficult to use. Reporting process was time consuming. For example, you were allotted 30 minutes to complete reports, but would usually take twice or three times as long to submit a report that would pass their approval process. Also, field managers were usually unavailable if their was a problem. Unless you are in a major metropolitan area don't expect to have a large amount of hours. This organization expects perfection from their representatives, but does not provide the proper support from the organization. In the end I quit, because when figuring in extra taxes for being a contract employee, expenses and time spent working without compensation, I was working for a low amount of money.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Your front line people are the face of your organization, and should be treated accordingly. Processes need to be developed that make their work easier to complete, not more complicated with unclear expectations.
