    Disapproves of CEO

As one of the oldest staffing firms in the Northeast, there is a lot to like about WinterWyman. Solid training program, good systems/tools, and decent culture.

Everything at WinterWyman is a moving target. While there, the market started to boom in the mid 2000's, so management changed the compensation plan which negatively impacted employees! Philosophies and business objectives always seemed to be in flux. CEO was an accountant by trade, and had never "run a desk". As a result, his management style seemed extremely numbers oriented at a granular level. Not to say numbers aren't important, but he tended to want to boil everything down to a metric, even a metric that missed the point (like the TPLQ system). Too many people who have been there too long and have a sense of "ownership" at many accounts. Junior people often complained that they couldn't easily move to the client side of the business because of this. Finally, the long term career prospects are terrible. Becoming a manager of people at WinterWyman is a thankless job. The financial incentives are poor, and even after you have successfully trained and developed someone who is a superstar, senior management can and will take them away from you on a whim. While some of the senior level people at WinterWyman are solid, many are just those who won the war of attrition. They were people who were mediocre performers who chugged along and just lasted longer than those who got out before them.

    Advice to Management

Another former WW alum once said to me, "they just beat the sh&t out of recruiting" - and for me, this said it all. Recruiting is fundamentally pretty simple. WinterWyman has a way of turning the simple into the needlessly complex.
