    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Wolters Kluwer full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

WK-P1S has a great wok life balance. They are very open to working from home and leaving early to pick up kids and things like that.

    Cons

They are very slow to adopt change. When introducing new tech into their development process they aren't comfortable with looking at open source options first. Add to that, the catch 22 of it taking months to buy a supported version of the same software. Once that software is in house, almost nobody takes it on themselves to adopt it. There are a lot of cases (database migration software, deployment orchestration software, configuration management software, continuous integration servers) where one and only one person will be the in house expert with that tool. Everyone else might know of it's existence at least and a few other people may recognize opportunities for taking advantage of it at best. There are opportunities for learning new tech; brown bags once every other week. These usually involve the one person who knows the new tech giving a presentation with very little interaction or questions from the audience.

    Advice to Management

Encourage innovation. It seems like success is defined there by an employee doing the bare minimum in their job title. Enable your team to learn about new tech and practices out there by letting them go to conferences or at least by buying a book or two.
