I worked at YMCA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Those with related degree(s) but little professional experience will find learning and training opportunities within the organization that can lead to further professional development and careers opportunities. The YMCA is a global organization so opportunities are there if you are determined, patient, and dedicated to not-for-profit service.

    Cons

Pay rates and salaries are generally lower than average yet maximum time, performance and effort is expected. Operational changes are often top down and swift which can adversely affect some branches more than others. Fund-raising, also referred to as member "commitment," is everybody's job.

    Advice to Management

Wages should be more competitive for entry- and mid-level positions as they have most member interface. Upper mid- and top-level management should have limits to their time in a leadership roles. There is too much opportunity to get complacent.
