Nice place, but lack of leadership

I worked at Zions Bancorporation full-time

I worked at the Salt Lake downtown headquarters and it was physically a nice place to work, beautiful views of the city and artwork hung throughout the building. The people with whom I was around were great. Work/Life balance was good.

In my department, too many people's job descriptions have been hijacked by the Dodd-Frank regulation. Very little work on profitability, and a complete emphasis on chasing fuzzy compliance targets created by regulators --not entirely the company's fault, but how it's delt with is. This made for a murky path for growth, see below.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Someone needs to recognize that the current personnel organization is not equipped to properly and efficiently meet the CCAR/DFAST regulatory burden, and they need to take a leadership role in redesigning roles and personnel structure for this need. Trying to innovate and improve was difficult in an environment where the middle managers were largely fighting great big fires but could communicate little long-term vision and solutions.
