    Pros

    Unique business model. Good marketing. Denver headquarters. Approachable CEO who is well-networked in the HR community in Denver. Ok pay. A couple of exceptional employees.

    Cons

    The problems are in leadership from the top down. If you carve out your niche you'll be fine - for 2-3 years. The turnover is both voluntary and involuntary. hrQ is a small HR organization whose business model is to recruit and place only HR executives and professionals, but doesn't follow basic HR principles. The leadership is comprised of executives and professionals, many from big organizations, but they are terrible managers. The CEO is disengaged from field staff and operations. She is aware of the issues, is concerned only with growing the business to be positioned for sale. Minimal training and no coaching for development for employees. Again, typical of a small business, but unforgivable from experienced career HR people. The volunteer board of directors is kept at arms length, unfortunately. If you join this organization, keep a bag packed - you won't know when the ax will fall. And if it does you won't be given any support whatsoever. The longer-term employees know this and leave on their own before this happens to them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Take a cue from your training and education in HR and recruiting: Train and coach your employees. If things don't work out, treat them the right way during the exit process like you were trained to do. It's not rocket science. Treat all of your current employees, past employees, and candidates as if they could be future clients or referrals. Because they could have been. And this company has lost business because they don't do the basics.
