    I worked at rue21 full-time (More than 3 years)

It's a steady job and you get paid. The benefits are decent and most of the co-workers are a pleasure to work with. The parking is free and the headquarters is located in Warrendale with a number of good restaurants in the area.

It is a job, it is not a career. You do get paid, but not very well. I see a lot of reviews that state "Work hard, play hard". You will work hard, but you won't have time to play hard if you expect to move up in the IT Department. You will be expected to work late nights, go home and then respond to more emails on your BlackBerry/iPhone which causes high turnover and burnout. rue21 is notorious for lacking home/life balance. The IT Department is run very poorly and lacks any leadership from the top down. There are a lot of people that have been put into roles within the IT Department that they are not qualified for which creates a difficult environment to work in. The CIO will speak negatively about you to other members of the IT staff after you leave. That alone should speak volumes about how the department is run and the type of person running it. Allow your employee's in IT to do the engineering/administration etc... Stop outsourcing all of this to vendors.

    Advice to Management

Stop asking HR to post positive reviews on this website and other websites to cover up the negative reviews (Yes, this is happening). Try fixing these issues instead of ignoring them. Don't just use "catchy" phrases to act like nothing is wrong. Actions speak louder than words. Invest in your people...send them to training - which is huge for all IT, show them you care about their careers and want what's best for them. When your employee's state that they want to get into the weeds and actually engineer, don't say "they don't get it" - CIO. Perhaps consider changing a terrible IT model where all the vendors do the work, gain the experience, become more marketable and then leave causing your internal staff to support something they know nothing about and then get yelled at for not knowing why it doesn't function right. Not to mention, the staff is wondering why they aren't gaining any solid experience and then leaving because they know they'll get the experience elsewhere and can't sit at rue21 watching their skills rot away. Many employee's have left and sighted this exact issue in their exit interviews to the CIO and the CIO still doesn't get it or simply doesn't care. I'm not sure which is worse.
