I have been working at tw telecom full-time (more than 3 years)

-solid and conservative approach results in very little layoffs, not too much schizoid telecom behavior, no running off chasing shiny objects and wasting a lot of time and resources, etc
-decent average pay, middle of the road for most jobs/roles
-very smart about expansion and investment
-benefits (other than healthcare below) are reasonable, as are bonuses
-make good attempts at recognition of jobs well done, tenure, etc.
-increasingly forward looking and thinking regarding sales, marketing, product, expansion strategy
-surprisingly generous with work/life balance for a telecom company, but may depend on the department you are in

-not a lot of chance to advance fast, everyone just sticks around, good or bad; poor performance seldom called out or carries consequences, especially in operations and IT
-lousy and below industry standard health care plan (Cigna) with lots of hoops to jump through, death by papercuts constantly getting little bills here and there
-mostly homegrown systems and IT leads to a lot of quirks and silly rules to navigate for all orgs
-conservative approach also means the sale and new development, capabilties are slow and cumbersome
-suffers from same malady as most telecom: ops and IT always have everything "hard", nothing shoudl change, this is the way we've always done it. manifests as slow movement on many fronts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-if we want to grow fast, take more chances and invest more in onnet expansion, acquisition of national fiber routes and assets, and product capabilities. Spend money to make money
-if an organization is failing to meet their obligations and targets, they need to be shaken up, removed, or punished. That goes for those well outside of sales

    Neutral Outlook
    Approves of CEO
