Current Employee - Senior Member of Technical Staff

I have been working at AMD full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Extremely challenging work due to a perennially short staffed environment. You can choose to cry about this, or use it to your advantage and learn quickly. I chose the latter and it gives tremendous job satisfaction. Flexible working hours, flexible movement between technical roles, generally less micro management (this can be subjective).

    Cons

The company has been struggling with margin and revenue. It has been cutting down on several perks - no sabbaticals for instance, poor bonuses, RSUs don't mean much due to poor stock performance, no real employee engagement events. Even the fitness center requires a certain minimum attendance otherwise you lose membership.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get the balance between the projects that are likely to generate revenue vs experimental projects right. Management starts well but tends to get excited and piles up too much work without realizing the ground reality.
