In one unique twist of fate, however, these two otherwise unrelated disciplines came together and launched a company that has become a pioneer in online retailing and a leader in applied shopping analytics.
The idea behind Adlucent was created while our Founder, Michael Griffin, was pursuing a PhD in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Texas. While curating a web site related to his research, Michael became interested in Amazon’s program that paid for referral traffic that resulted in online product sales. While Michael’s foray into online advertising started modestly, he quickly discovered the same data analytics he was applying in his doctoral research could be applied to online shopping behavior, resulting in dramatically improved advertising performance.The technology and methodologies Michael pioneered helped Amazon grow from the “World’s Largest Bookstore” to the world’s largest retailer. Michael’s innovations continued leading Adlucent to be the first advertising technology company to advertise at the SKU-level at scale and automatically adjust advertising based on real-time inventory across Amazon’s entire marketplace.
In 2007, as Michael looked at avenues to expand the use of applied shopping analytics beyond Amazon, Adlucent expanded its team to bring the same technology to leading retailers across the Web. A year later, we launched the industry’s first predictive search bid technology to predict consumer buying behavior. This led to the launch of our Shopping Analytics platform that provides retailer’s with insights and an understanding of consumer shopping behavior and gives them the ability to quickly activate the data through paid search.

I have been working at Adlucent full-time (less than a year)Pros
While a relatively new Adlucite, I can easily say this is the best job I've ever had. The application process is challenging and long; if you don't like problem solving or puzzles, you probably won't enjoy the interview process or, naturally, the job itself. But if that sounds like your thing, I highly encourage you to apply. That being said, employing such an arduous application process has successfully created an environment of like-minded, hard working people. Adlucent fosters a thirst for challenge, growth, and being "better every day" (the Adlucent motto).
Once hired, all newbs are taken through a 4 week boot camp. This is a good opportunity to get your feet wet, learn, and get comfortable in your new role. While I was completely new to the paid search world, I felt completely prepared once I was unleashed into the wild.
Aside from the easy-going atmosphere, Adlucent offers a laundry list of perks. The balance day program (better known as an unlimited vacation policy) and the remote work policy make it easy to take vacations, go on that sabbatical you've always dreamed of, or just deal with something personal. Aside from that, Happy Hours are abound, the kitchen is always stocked with food, coffee (really good coffee), and tea. Every time the company acquires a new account, everyone gets champagne (at Tuesday around noon). Every day is bring your dog to work day and you can wear pretty much WHATEVER you want.
Perhaps my favorite aspect of Adlucent is the company's transparency. The CEO talks to Adlucites like family; nothing feels hidden or secret. All questions, even the hard ones, are fair game. People and Culture (the "HR" department) is always eager to hear honest feedback and tries to create the most utilitarian environment possible, from stocking the kitchen to suit everyone's tastes, to getting input on events. The promotion scale is clearly laid out and you can move at your own pace. At each level, you are given a list of skills and a general expectation of what level of each you need to reach before movin' on up. There are also plenty of opportunities to merge into other fields.
Finally, Adlucent cares. The company invests a lot of time and effort into employees and, as a result, truly wants to see everyone succeed and do well. If you mess up, it's an opportunity for learning, not a threat to potentially lose your job. Everyone is always willing to teach you something, and willing to listen if you have something to teach them. Sharing information, ideas, and positive feedback is the Adlucent way.Cons

Apply online - fill out an application, take an IQ test
HR calls and then books you an appointment with the People & Culture team for two weeks out where they interview you (and several others back to back) for about 15 minutes (out in the open may I add *not very professional*). You then go into a room with a proctor where you have to take another little exam without a calculator or use any outside source. You also share this same room with all the other people who are interviewing too. These questions take about an hr or so to finish.
