I have been working at Advent Software full-time (less than an year)Pros
I really enjoy the ROW model of working. Results Oriented Work.
ROW allows employees (I think this mostly applies to engineers and IT) to essentially set their own hours. Whether you enjoy working from or coming into the office, it's all good as long as the work you are producing is valuable to the company. That's it. I feel very spoiled this being my first job out of college but I don't think I can work at a typical 9 to 5 company after experiencing this style of working.
I also appreciate being surrounded by so many intelligent, qualified people. Everyday I feel like I learn something new just by talking to people.
This is a great place to start your career.
Oh and the benefits are pretty great too.Cons
One con I've noticed about ROW is that it is hard to know WHEN someone will be in the office or not since there isn't really a strict policy on letting your teammates know your exact schedule. This can make it a little difficult to communicate effectively of the majority of your interactions are through Go to meeting.
This is a small gripe since I haven't experienced this nearly as much as I thought I might. People still enjoy coming into the office most of the time (except Fridays)Advice to ManagementAdvice
Keep trying to evolve the culture and bring in some younger minds. They started this process with my class by hiring around 60 new grads which is great. Keep it up.RecommendsPositive OutlookApproves of CEO
Getting an Interview
Getting an Interview
- Application Details
I applied online. The process took a week – interviewed at Advent Software.Interview Details
Found Advent's job requisition through Craigslist for a Senior Client Support Specialist, then followed link to Jobvite and applied. About a week later, their contract recruiter sent an email to set up a phone interview for their Global Client Support Specialist position; out of 5 days, 3 possible days for an interview had to be selected.
The interviewer was very precise and seemed to be going off of a list of typical interview questions, like what was my background, what I knew about Advent and its products, what I felt that I could bring to the team.
A few days later, I received another email from the contract recruiter and an in-person interview was scheduled.
Upon arriving, I had to sign-in, place a name tag on my shirt, and eventually met with one of the senior support reps. I was shown parts of the office, and after a brief conversation, we met with another senior support rep. The interview involved more typical information exchange, as well as a couple brain teasers; fill a jug with exactly 4 gallons of water, using only a 3 gallon and a 5 gallon jug, and something about socks, and how many of each color.
Although the interview experience was different than most others, it seems Advent utilizes this format for everyone.Interview Questions
