I have been working at Affordable Engineering Services full-time (more than 5 years)

The company is lean on management, so the professionals have minimal management oversight. The professional staff has to keep clients happy and submit a detailed monthly progress report. Senior management and services such as HR and Payroll are always available to the staff. As long as the monthly reports show that the contractually-required work is being accomplished and the client is happy, the company is willing to maintain its hands-off approach (for professional staff).

The word Affordable in the company name is a key feature. Overhead is kept low, which means that the physical work environment may not be anything to brag about. The benefits package is minimal--the major deficiency is the lack of paid sick leave.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Beef up the benefits package to include some paid sick leave. Institute a structured employee evaluation system that allows for formal evaluation followed by employee response.

    Interview Details

The incumbent left the company without notice, so the company had to find a qualified individual quickly. The contacted the local chapter of SOLE (a professional society for logisticians) to find out who was out of work and available.
The interview was over the phone, and the VP for Marketing did a heavy sales job on the job and the company. My background had already been verified.
