Why work in a contact center?
It's fun and good for your career.
A contact center is where companies manage customer contacts. People working in contact centers assist customers over the phone or on the internet through web chat.
They're great places to work. Here's why.
Two words: Job. Security.
Customer assistance isn't going anywhere. Consumers will always need help with products and services they buy. Plus, people expect service in a variety of places, times and ways. Phone, email, social media, chat ... customer service comes in a variety of forms and new ways are emerging.
Be comfy at work.
We're a bit more relaxed than you might think. Most contact centers are business casual or even casual (think jeans and sweatshirts).
Be a hero, not a pest.
In a contact center, you help people. Customers contact you when they need something. Some roles require you to reach out to customers, but most of the time, customers are contacting you. Bottom line, you get to problem solve and make someone's day so much better. Way to go, champ!
Join a team.
Life in a contact center is pretty social and fun. Sure, it takes some hard work, but you also work closely with a group of unique people. You learn from them, laugh with them, and hang out with them doing fun things like cookouts and theme days.
Develop a fierce set of skills.
A job in customer service gives you the foundation of skills needed for many career paths, thanks to relevant training programs and on the job experience. Problem solving, team work, communication, sales, listening ... these are just a few of the skills you'll develop. There are plenty more.

I worked at Afni full-time (Less than a year)RecommendsPositive OutlookNo opinion of CEORecommendsPositive OutlookNo opinion of CEO
My new hire trainer was the best trainer I have ever had a job. After training there are SO MANY OPTIONS as far as shift flexibility. Great medical/dental/vision benefits after 60 days!! 401K!! tuition reimbursement after 90 days or 6 months(cant remember)! Vacation and sick time begins accruing after 90 days!
Lots of awesome people here, good talent is indeed recognized.
The newest location is expanding so there really is LOTS of potential for advancement!!
The client's computer system is actually brilliant and a dream to operate. Its not super slow, its not glitchy. The programs are actually very intuitive, there are multiple ways of finding things. I was astonished (and yet not surprised) by the quality of IT at work. It is quite apparent that both Afni and the client really do invest in quality in everything they do.
Call centers in general are high-stress jobs for some people. Only half of my training class made it through the first 8 weeks. If you cannot detach from the work itself, nonstop calls for a busy telecom giant can become very mentally and emotionally demanding.
Dress code not enforced... some peers will probably make you feel icky.
Classroom training is night and day different from doing the actual job. After I began taking phone calls I personally was disappointed. I feel I had been very inadequately prepared after all.
Advice to Management
MORE MENTORS! (and mentors who actually CARE about helping other agents instead of making themselves look good)
AND FOR GOSH SAKES Y-JACKING!! I spent 5 weeks in a classroom but only heard maybe 5 calls at maximum. I felt like someone read me a really thick, fancy book on flying(very eloquently, too), then they sent me out and I crashed 17 planes because a book can't give hands on training.
The training curriculum sucks. Great information!!!! Worst delivery every.

I applied through a recruiter – interviewed at Afni.
Personality questions, over the phone interview that was for a chat line representative. You were able to work at home and got business class internet as well as a full computer set up. My location was not in reach of the internet and for that reason I turned down the job offer. They are currently growing in the Colorado Market and expanding.
