I worked at Altium Limited full-time (More than 3 years)

Altium offers some of the best PCB design software on the market and is posied for explosive growth. The employees are mostly outstanding people who work well together and provide the customer with a quality product and experience. There is opportunity for learning and, to a lesser degree, professional growth. Nice facilities and catered lunches are a bonus, and a pretty fair compensation package rounds out the offerings.

For a lot of my time there, upper management was disjointed, the company mission was nebulous at best, and morale suffered, especially at the hands of an individual in management who embodied many of the qualities seen in LinkedIn's "How to spot a Bad Manager" articles. Dishonesty and obscurity plagued things like compensation plans and expectations. Comp plans were always late, often by months, and could not be counted on. I received only one review in nearly four years, and that was just after being hired on. The last ones we did as a company were initially completed as "self-reviews" and we were threatened to get them submitted A.S.A.P. After months and several changes to the HR department, they were discarded and no review was ever administered.

    Advice to Management

Be upfront with employees and honest with customers. Treat employees as a valuable part of a world-class company and not simply as disposable. Now that a somewhat clear direction has been decided on, stay the course and become what the rank and file always thought the goal was - the best PCB tool supplier in the world!

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Altium Limited (Carlsbad, CA) in January 2008.

Initially a phone interview followed by a 1 on 1 interview with the hiring manager. This was followed with a panel interview consisting of the hiring manager, another sales manager, a senior account manager and HR. The hiring manager described a sales situation and then he and the other members of the panel played different customer roles. I had to sell to all of them based on the defined sales situation.
