Worked in 401k dept. Team approach with great collaboration, depending on team. Excellent mid-level management in admin and sales. Good basic benefits package, but you have to stay on top of HR to get everything implemented you want. Great work-life balance - very focused on family friendly culture.
Department & Company Exec management seems so preoccupied with other matters that details get missed. Lack of focus - try to do too many things at once. Very date and deadline driven department. Try to implement too much change and the wrong times, which puts employees in very bad positions with clients. As a result, activities reflect poorly on entire company. HR is SLOW in getting your benefits in place - they are also poor in communication and follow-up. Pay is average to below average - which does not incentivize people to stay. Blatant focus on hiring with as low pay as possible for the position.
Advice to Management
Have more round table discussions with the front line employees - those who deal daily with clients. Better pay would be nice - people leave regularly for better opportunities. Have better "systems" in HR so benefits are implemented quickly.

I applied online. The process took 2+ months – interviewed at Ameritas Life Insurance Corp (Lincoln, NE).
Lengthy interview process with a lot of repetition. First two interviews were phone interviews. Next three interviews were in-person interviews. Total of 5 interviews! First phone interview was typical general background with HR. Second phone interview was with direct supervisor to learn more about the position and discuss my background in greater detail. Third in person interview was with team supervisor and direct supervisor - nearly identical to second interview. Fourth interview was with team supervisor and a team supervisor from another department. Fifth interview was with team members (more informal, but still typical interview questions). All of these interviews were in addition to computer based assessments.
