Former Employee - Intern in New York, NY

I worked at Animoto as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

The senior leadership is very open to explaining what the company's goals are, and making sure everyone, right down to the interns, understands their purpose and importance. Like many other places, Animoto has the fun parties and free food, but beyond that, the company really has a great sense of culture that goes beyond anything material. People want to hang out with you after work and actually be friends, and they're genuinely fun people.

    Cons

Some of the work for interns was a bit of mindless excel data entry. That said, you really need to make your own opportunities and ask for more interesting work if you want it, or ask to be part of the other teams. The other people working there are definitely open to helping you out in any way they can.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you're going to pivot to cater to small business marketing videos, it seems unlikely to create a cookie-cutter process for that unless you really focus on incorporating custom branding. Each business is unique and the branding of a video should permeate through the entire video, not just the post-roll.

    Software Test Engineer Interview

    Application Details

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks - interviewed at Animoto in March 2011.

    Interview Details

There was an initial phone screening with some hypothetical testing situations, fairly open ended. That was followed up with an invitation to interview. The interview was five people, one after the other, each about 45mins. The separate sessions contained a lot of hypothetical sounding out of testing situations, or testing of knowledge of internet technologies. The last interview was presented as a stretch - I was given a fairly simple coding test - write a simple function and then test it.
