About one-fourth of its MBS holdings are backed by the US government through agencies such as Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae The remainder of Arlington's MBS portfolio is made up of private-label funds issued by private organizations. Arlington also manages merchant bank holdings, including interest in equity securities, mezzanine debt, and senior loans. The company was founded as Friedman, Billings, Ramsey in 1989.
