I worked at Ascend Consulting full-time (More than 5 years)
A management team that cares about its people with a focus on balancing work and personal life. Fellow employees also felt the same way so a very supportive environment. Client engagement managers stood up for employees to the clients and always worked with the client and employee, rather than just blaming the employee ... you always felt that Ascend would stand up for your interests as much as everyone else's ... a very fair process. The leadership was easy to talk to and truly appreciated the people that worked there.
Because everyone was dispersed at client locations, building culture was very tough and difficult to see significant improvements. A somewhat reactive company that responds to problems well but doesn't seem to do enough to stop them from happening in the first place. Clients are not as diverse as company would like them to be with a heavy focus on financial services and insurance at certain key clients.
Advice to Management
Some people become consultants to move around from client to client and building diversity there would go a long way.

I applied through an employee referral. The process took a week. I interviewed at Ascend Consulting in January 2010.
I received an interview call after a current employee referred me for the position of Business Analyst. There were roughly 5 to 6 rounds of phone interview, some of the interviews took place without any notice in advance. Their approach was very unprofessional. Last round consisted of a 1:1 interview with a practice manager, he was completely focussed on what Ascend was doing and preferred to ignore on what I wanted to achieve. Finally, I discussed with the HR and he was not sure if he was ready to sponsor temp visas and there was clarity on that. The Client Relationship Manager asked for my CV to be presented with the client and she never got back to me. Overall an unprofessional organisation to say the least. It was a complete waste of time.
