You will be supporting a rewarding mission, advancing Asia-Pacific and international peace by educating and empowering foreign representatives (and U.S. as well) to approach their countries' challenges. You will have countless opportunities to network with both U.S. and international professionals. It is the only military installation in Hawaii (and there are many) located in beautiful Waikiki. The faculty and staff have been very kind and helpful to me since I started working there. The faculty (civilian and military professors) are experts in their fields and open to talk to you about any of your international or security interests. The leadership and faculty are genuine in teaching its Fellows and visitors about the beauty of Hawaiian culture and values. You will find that 'Aloha' and 'Ohana' are more than words here.
There are fewer employment opportunities here than in other military installations in Hawaii. I would attribute that to low employee turnover and the relatively small civilian staff. Like other academic institutions, there are likely to be more openings for Professors than other job categories. If you plan to apply for a Professor position, be prepared for stiff competition.
