I worked at Astoria Financial full-time

    Pros

The work is easy to perform, speaking to clients about their banking products. Selling some products. Good training, provides a lot of banking FDIC etc. information useful for the customer

    Cons

Not enough flexibility for families with caregivers. discrimination very visual, small percentage of African American supervisors or managers. No encouragement to elevate one self. Felt discouraged. Forced to resign after request time to care for ailing parent and if was granted because they just wouldn't.

    Advice to Management

Treat everyone equally across the board. Merit should be based on performance and dedicated employees who are willing to work with you and give value to your company. If you hire managers who have prejudices how can you excel in todays corporate scale. Develop a new motto, a new vision for the 21st century. Please note: everyone's experience is different so my review should not deter you but put you on the alert about management practices. We live and learn.

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took a week. I interviewed at Astoria Financial (Lake Success, NY) in December 2014.

    Interview

Go in to the corporate office on Long Island and wait in the lobby. Prior to the interview you just complete a test to see if you could handle the math and money involved in being a teller. Afterwards meet one on one with an HR rep and get asked pretty standard questions.

    Interview Questions

    • Are you comfortable with the idea of trying to get a referral from every customer you meet?   1 Answer

    Negotiation

    There was none
