My experience work with Atlanta Public was great because my main concern was teaching and working with my students.

    Pros

The best reason for working with Atlanta is the type of students coming from the rural areas of town makes them more of a challenge to work with, that's good.

    Cons

The challenge of working with Atlanta is that you know that you are going to be faced with many obstacles because of the different diversity. There will be some days when you are not just the teacher in the classroom but also the nurse, social worker, counselor or parent. But you must keep in mind that you are there to teach the students and prepare them for life so they will be able to face whatever obstacles may come their way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to management is to be supportive to your staff and teachers. I was at a training once that stated that as teachers we must have the three P's which are: Personality, Professionalism and Passion. These are also important for Administrators too. We must learn to work together and not pulling against each other. I believe that, "Together we stand, Divided we fall."

    Application Details

I applied online. The process took 4 weeksinterviewed at Atlanta Public Schools in June 2014.

    Interview Details

Applied online and received an invitation to interview within a few weeks (I don't recall exactly how long). The interview was with a panel of three employees (including the director of the department) and included several specific procedural based questions. Required more thinking than the other five or so interviews I've been on in the last several years. The interview panel was friendly and willingly answered my questions. I received a call with an offer to join the district the following day. It was a very painless process and I'm excited to join the district.

    Interview Questions
    • "Explain how you would respond to a parent request for testing" - [difficult only because of the common disconnect between federal law, state regulations, and the procedures within any given district.]   Answer Question
    Negotiation Details
No negotiation - district salary scale for the position of school psychologist based on years of experience and education. Internship year is not credited.
