Our Headquarters on Bainbridge Island, Washington is a modern, sprawling, 3-story building. And while most of us tend to take the stairs, the elevator ride is short. Which is why it’s good that our “elevator speech” is short as well.

Today our tax decision engine processes more than 1.7 million tax calculations every day. We file more than 500,000 tax returns every year for more than 25,000 licensed users throughout the U.S., Canada and abroad.     Fun and exciting work environment. Opportunity to grow with a start-up that is growing exponentially and has a ton of potential to be one of the top companies in Seattle.


    Salary doesn't compare with other tech companies in Seattle. If you don't live in Seattle there is a long ferry commute, but the company covers all commuting cost so that is a huge benefit.

    Advice to Management

    No advice. Management and CEO do a great job of listening to employees and making sure they are satisfied with their work environment and keep things laid back.

    I applied online. The process took 4 daysinterviewed at Avalara in June 2015.


    As expected, first interview was by phone with recruiter. Allowed time for high level overview of work experience followed by a summary of the job I had applied for.

    Person I spoke to was very easy to speak to and did a great job of steering me towards a role I was better suited for based on my work experience. Although there wasn't an open position at that time she reached out to the hiring manager to determine if they would be opening a rec in that group. I appreciated the extra effort made.
