I have been working at Avalon Flooring full-time (More than 10 years)RecommendsPositive OutlookRecommendsPositive Outlook
I have worked at Avalon Flooring for 10 years. In those 10 years, I have moved into different positions to find the one that is best suited for me, both professionally and personally. And, the best thing about my story is that I am not unique. Many of the people who are now in positions of management and above have worked their way up through the company. That is one of the many assets that attracted me to Avalon over 10 years ago.
After reading some of the recent reviews here on Glassdoor, I was prompted to leave one myself. Avalon Flooring is not for the individual who is not a self starter (i.e. lazy) It takes initiative and stamina to grow your business within this business. However, their is no limit to your earning potential. I have worked hours, both in and out of the showroom, to grow my business and it continues to pay off. I have gathered contacts and clients that refer me to their contacts and clients. The business is about networking, not about taking orders.
I don't just sell flooring and tile, I get to sell something that people will enjoy looking at for years to come.
With all the buzz and interest in programs like HGTV and sites like Houzz, the industry is only getting bigger. This company takes great time to train and educate the sales staff, but come willing to learn and wear your running shoes!
In reference to the benefits package, our health care is like no other. The rates are fair and the coverage is excellent. My family has used it through our GP, specialists, and hospitalization all with a minimum of concern. Avalon is very focused on overall health and wellness by giving us financial incentives for being an active participant in MY health and wellness. I am talking BIG picture stuff. Being healthy and productive for work and family.
The truth is, I don't have cons about Avalon. But I will say this, this job is about working with the public. Both the good and the bad side. People can take it very personally when it comes to working inside their homes. They expect perfection. Often this job becomes about being friends with your clients and empathizing with their problems. If your aren't a people person then this may not be your dream job. The other side of that is I often get praise, thank you notes, and the occasional hug of gratitude.

I applied in-person. The process took 1+ week – interviewed at Avalon Flooring (Egg Harbor Township, NJ) in August 2012.
Had two interviews one with store manager and one with HR department, everyone was very professional and detailed to find the best canidate for the job. Very good communication about company philosophy and benefits package upfront. No feeling of wool being pulled over.
- What did I feel was my weaknesses? Hard to self reflect sometimes when attempting to make an impression. Answer Question
What were you able to negotiate? What advice would you give others considering an offer?
