    Current Employee - Financial Specialist

I have been working at Banco Santander New York Branch full-time (more than an year)

    - Very competitive salary
    - Great incentive plan for investment sales
    - Great learning opportunity for new comers to banking and investments

    - Quarterly sales goals rather than monthly
    - Too many loopholes to lose incentive/commissions payments
    - Branch employees are often in direct competition for sales with their managers; managers should not have sales goals so that they can focus on managing the branch and customer experience
    - Horrible IT systems that constantly crash for hours
    - Alot of hangers-on from previous banks (ICB, Sovereign, etc) that cannot keep up with new demands of the company
    - Too much micromanagement from all levels

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Ensure that middle management is actually qualified to manage people and customers and is not comprised of glorified sales people
    - Clearly define job families and responsibilities
    - Work on recruiting talent that understands the needs of younger customers with more sophisticated banking needs
    - Become more transparent and eliminate all of the micromanagement, and you will see a more productive team
