I worked at Bauer Consumer Media as a contractor (Less than a year)

    - exposure to different technologies - good for junior-mid level devs - some attempts of following the standards - parts of the system oursourced to people who know what they were doing - company provided the equipment (mac) and screens if required - good location - underground parking

    - technical debt - no clear responsibilities - lack of code ownership - wrong people hired which is a result of bad hiring practices (irrelevant questions on interviews which did not reflect my experience)

    Advice to Management

Spend a bit more on getting better people. Company tries to go in the right direction but struggles because of the outdated business model. They are moving slower than their competitors in many sectors. Low quality code and complicated solutions prevent growth

I applied through a recruiter. The process took a week. I interviewed at Bauer Consumer Media in October 2009.

Interviews arranged via agency recruiter. First interview was in Peterborough office with two senior managers & covered reviewing CV & competency questions. Second interview was in London office with another two (but different) senior managers & again covered reviewing CV & competency questions.
