Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Honored as One of the "Best Places to Work in Baton Rouge"
Baton Rouge, La. (Oct. 17, 2014): Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana—a trusted nonprofit health insurance company, mutually owned by its policyholders—announced today that it has claimed a spot on the 2014 Best Places to Work list presented by the Baton Rouge Business Report, Louisiana Workforce Commission and the Greater Baton Rouge Society for Human Resource Management. This year’s ranking places Blue Cross at No. 11 out of 38 companies in Baton Rouge. This is the first year the list has honored Baton Rouge businesses.
For more than 80 years, Blue Cross has provided access to quality care to its customers. “I’ve been proud to say I am a Blue Cross employee since I first started more than 35 years ago,” says Mike Reitz, president and CEO of Blue Cross. “Today, I’m especially pleased with our company’s ranking. It truly is an honor to be listed among these top-performing companies.”
The "Best Places to Work in Baton Rouge" program is managed by Best Companies Group. Surveys are completed by local employees. Rankings on the list are based on responses to those surveys in addition to a review of the extensive applications companies must submit for consideration. Making this list, like Blue Cross has, shows sustainable growth within the company for employees and security for its customers.
The company feedback report Blue Cross received reflected 94 percent of employees surveyed agreed they were satisfied with Blue Cross as an employer. These results fall in line with the company’s own annual employee survey results. Employees were asked about their satisfaction in the company’s leadership, planning, corporate culture, communications, pay and benefits. Employees were also asked to provide open-ended comments about what makes a company a great place to work and what their company can do to improve. The results show that Blue Cross employees value the company’s robust wellness program, active corporate giving programs for community support, strategic diversity and inclusion program and continuing education programs that provide opportunities for development and growth, among other benefits.
Blue Cross and all of the companies on the “Best Places to Work” list were honored at a breakfast hosted by the Greater Baton Rouge Society for Human Resource Management on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Blue Cross and all companies deemed “Best Places to Work” are listed according to their rankings in the Oct. 14 issue of the Baton Rouge Business Report.
“Our employees are proud to be a part of Blue Cross. It is our pleasure to serve our customers when they need us most,” says Todd Schexnayder, senior vice president of Human Resources. “I believe I can speak for our leaders in saying we are humbled that our employees consider Blue Cross to be one of the best places to work in Baton Rouge.”
With a portfolio of health plans both on and off the HealthCare.gov marketplace, broad networks of quality providers, a wealth of wellness tools and more, Blue Cross and its employees work to protect its customers from unexpected healthcare costs every day. As a Blue Cross employee, you may be eligible to participate in several excellent benefit programs.
The company provides many benefits at no cost to you and subsidizes the cost of providing these benefits. These benefits are in addition to your regular salary.
In addition to good working conditions and competitive pay, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana provides a comprehensive package of benefits to all eligible employees. Each benefit program has been carefully devised to meet a variety of employee needs. These benefits include time off benefits, such as Paid Time Off and holidays, insurance and more.
We are constantly studying and evaluating our benefits programs and policies to better meet our employees' current and future needs.
Health benefits include medical, dental, vision, life and disability coverage, health and dependent care spending accounts, long-term care coverage and an employee assistance program that provides free, confidential counseling services to employees and their families.
The company pays the entire medical insurance premium for employees who meet the Preferred Premium requirements of our Healthy You, Healthy Blue employee wellness program. The company also pays a portion of the premium for dependent coverage. Employees pay the remaining portion of the premium for dependent coverage through a pre-tax payroll deduction each payday. Pre-tax deductions provide employees with the ability to pay for health plan premiums before any taxes are withheld. These dollars represent a significant tax savings to employees. Health Savings Accounts are available for employees who enroll in the BlueSaverplan. Coverage becomes effective on the first day of the month after you complete 30 days of employment.
