I have been working at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The company is very focused on the well being of their employees. The culture promotes and rewards production rather than hours spent on site. Customer service is constantly stressed. The CEO is very down to earth and open minded. He is available to all employees. The salaries seem competitive and the benefits are great.

    Cons

Many at the management level are still stuck in outmoded ways of getting work done and lack vision for a new era of being quick to respond to the market. Many of them are so worried about losing control of their area that they put in policies and processes that hinder progress.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Educate the managers on empowering their reports rather than controlling them.

    Application Details

I applied online – interviewed at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina in October 2014.

    Interview Details

Long process. Online submission, phone interview and then personal interview. Having not interviewed in many years I was nervous. I knew that they used the STAR process and was prepared for that but my first interviewer would ask a question and while I was responding she was looking all around the room and seemed very distracted. Second interviewer was attentive and made me very comfortable.
