    Digital Marketing Manager Interview

Anonymous Employee  in  New York, NY
Anonymous Employee in New York, NY
    Application Details

I applied online. The process took 7 weeks - interviewed at Blue Fountain Media.

    Interview Details

When I first saw some of the negative reviews about this company and their interviews, I was skeptical. I mean, typically only people with negative experiences tend to post on these kind of sites, and the ones with positive results don't bother. So I figured most of the negative reviews are just a bunch of people with sour grapes ranting about their experiences. However, after just going through the entire interview process, it's clear to me now that this company has a serious problem, at least in the way it goes about its hiring process and being transparent/honest with candidates.

I first applied on LinkedIn back in June. I went through a rigorous series of two questionnaires that I emailed back to the individual who first contacted me. After a phone interview and an in-person interview where I met with three Senior Marketing Managers, I finally had my final interview towards the end of July. I met with the CMO and two of the Senior Marketing Managers I met with previously.

Not 15 minutes after my interview was over and I was headed home, I received an email from them. The important part states, "I got some great feedback from the team and we'd like to move forward with a reference check before extending you the offer."

Wow! I was so excited - that email (so soon after my interview) signaled to me that I was going to get the position. I mean sure, nothing is ever official till you get the offer, but I felt like I had this one in the bag. That night I made sure to immediately respond back and give them my references. I was thankful to hear that the following morning, my references were all contacted. This again signaled to me that BFM was serious about moving forward and would be offering me the position any day.

Three weeks went by. I heard nothing. I sent two emails, and even tried calling just to get an update. I reached out to all of my references. Maybe something went wrong there? These were all former coworkers that I trusted and I knew would have my back, so surely they would've all given me good reviews.

Then I finally heard back this week. "At this time we have decided to move forward with other candidates that more closely matched our qualifications but we will continue to keep your information on file should another role be of fit."

Um, what? How can you tell me to expect an offer, and then tell me my qualifications aren't as up to par as other candidates? This made no sense to me. I feel extremely misled and quite frankly, angry. I sent an email write back asking for more clarification, and to find out just what the hell happened. I don't expect a reply back.

To summarize, this company does an awful job being transparent and misleading it's potential candidates. I've never been so upset and angry at a company when not getting a job offer. I wish the rest of you luck if you interview with them.
