    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Butler University part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The Speakers Lab management was very flexible with scheduling work hours. Students were typically well-behaved and appreciative of our free public speaking tutoring. The speaking labs were always clean and tutors were always paid on time.

    Cons

The only negative I can think of about working in Speakers Lab was the way students signed up for tutoring sessions. When I was a tutor students signed up on a piece of paper outside each lab. There were multiple situations when students would erase someone else's name and write their own to get a time slot.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Butler University (Indianapolis, IN) in October 2013.

    Interview

There were 2 major rounds. First, I was offered an initial interview via Skype call which lasted about 30 minutes with a search committee of about 6 people. There were pretty basic, general questions, and at that point not a lot of opportunity to dive deep into the job. After round 1, I was asked to come to campus. I had a 1 hour interview with the search committee. I was to give a 30-minute teaching demonstration on an academic technology, because the position required a sense of pedagogy and working with faculty. Then, I was to have a 1-hour interview with the remaining team members and two student workers. The day ended with a 1:1 interview with the Sr. Director which lasted about 45 minutes. I was called about 3 days later. The entire application process took about 3 1/2 weeks.

    Interview Questions

    • How will you help faculty integrate technology into the classroom? What experiences do you have with an LMS? How do you handle someone with a negative response to technology? What strengths do you bring to a collaboration?   Answer Question
