California Prison Health Care has a bad reputation, but it is worse than that

    Former Contractor - Physician

I worked at CA Prison Health Care as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

    Good Pay and reasonable courtesy.

    Cons

The system doesn't give a darn about its inmates and discourages those that do.
Beside my experience I know a psychologist who resigned 3 years before his pension benefit because the system was so intolerable to both prisoners as well as health care employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The system is so entrenched, there is no way to reform it.
It would be necessary to start anew with a parallel organization, stabilize that system then phase out the old one.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook
