Our History

Cancer Genetics, Inc. was founded by world-renowned cytogeneticist Dr. R.S.K. Chaganti. Today, CGI’s scientific advisory board includes key thought leaders in the areas of hematological malignancies, solid tumor cancers, pharmacogenomics, and clinical trials administration. Built on a foundation of world-class scientific knowledge and IP in solid and blood-borne cancers, the company continues to develop strong research collaborations with major cancer centers and academic institutions.

In 2013, CGI launched a joint-venture with Mayo Clinic, Oncospire Genomics. Working to meet areas of critical need in oncology, Oncospire Genomics seeks to improve cancer care by discovering and commercializing diagnostic tests that leverage NGS technology.

In 2014, CGI acquired Gentris, LLC (based in Raleigh, NC) and Bioserve Biotechnologis Pvt. Ltd. (based in Hyderabad, India. Gentris | A CGI Company is a market leader in providing pharmacogenomics testing, genotyping, and biorepository services to the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. Approves of CEO

I have been working at Cancer Genetics full-time (Less than a year)

Coming from Top 5 labs of the world with more than decade of experience, I have never come across such a wonderful company and especially CEO (Panna Sharma) who has this impeccable vision in the life sciences industry. It is a true leader like him and the right team he is forming that is making the biggest difference for patients and pharma who are developing innovative cancer therapies. For anyone to have an ultimate job satisfaction you would need a leader who is also a mentor with a smart vision but also for a humane cause. The CEO is a true gem in the lab industry, with a passionate goal to help patients. He is so kind to spend time and hear to the voice of his employees which he ultimately applies to help the patients. A true leader like him is very much necessary in this competitive space for a stable, long term productive strategy. The CEO's vision and strategy with the right team is the key to the success !! He is a true GEM in the life sciences lab arena in my more than 10 years of lab experience ! It is not how many years of experience but the timing and kind of experience is very much mandatory with the lab space and Panna Sharma is on a true mission for CGI to bring value and hope to patients lives.

The only cons is the lab market is moving at an unbelievable direction with mergers and joint ventures just like in the pharma world. Recently, 4 major labs became 2 depriving pharma of lab partners for their clinical trial testing needs, But CGI with the CEO vision is a true hope to be a strong, consistent player by driving positive growth. There is a strong need especially for pharma programs to have partnership with labs like CGI for their world wide clinical trials. Ultimately, the goal of CGI is help approve new and life chagrining drugs to be accessible to patients. That is the best job satisfaction anyone should look into as we as a company are helping other lives in need. If employees see this need in the lab community they will understand the high energy goals that CGI has to develop the credibility across physicians and pharma.
