Giving Back to our Communities.
Kentucky Regional Directors, Joe Burns and RC Scheinler, have the hearts and desire to serve their community. They credit the strength of their sales team as the key to giving back. While reaching out to the community, they have the added benefit of strengthening their relationships with their Cellular Sales family and nurturing a sense of teamwork and camaraderie amongst the dealers.
Each summer, the Cellular Sales Kentucky team joins efforts with the Habitat for Humanity. Over the years, we have been involved in building homes for three local families, and this May, we will continue that tradition by supporting a fourth. Kentucky also takes part in Santa’s Workshop/Adopt a Family for Fort Knox Military and Food Pantry Parties to provide food for organizations such as Red Cross, Fort Knox Military Thanksgiving Dinner and Gilda’s Cancer Support Group.
Last March, Cellular Sales of Kentucky answered the call again, as deadly EF-4 tornadoes devastated nearby towns. Henryville, IN was among one of the hardest hit. After establishing the proper contacts, Cellular Sales Kentucky representatives volunteered their time and resources to form three teams that went to the city to help survey needs, sort donated items and clear debris for local homeowners.

SOAR Youth Ministries, a 501(c)3 organization that caters to at-risk youth in the Lonsdale area, has announced it received a donation of $15,000 from Cellular Sales, the nation’s largest Verizon premium wireless retailer based in Knoxville.
SOAR Youth Ministries helps youth through three main programs: PREP (Providing Real Educational Possibilities) After School, Prep Summer and LAMP (Lighting a Mentoring Path). All of these programs seek to encourage, educate and grow children in a safe, loving environment. SOAR Youth Ministries has been serving youth in the Lonsdale area since 1993.
“The volunteers at SOAR have a passion for underprivileged youth and want to make a difference in their lives,” said Clayton Wood, executive director of SOAR Youth Ministries. “With the help of Cellular Sales, we get closer to that goal every year.”
Cellular Sales has supported SOAR Youth Ministries for three years. The funds will be used for the organization’s summer program, Prep Summer. The program aims to fulfill academic needs for children and helps prevent learning loss that sometimes occurs over the summer. According to Wood, the children in the program not only retain the information they learned at school the year before, but they continue to learn so they will be better prepared the following school year.
Cellular Sales will also sponsor the annual SOAR Golf Tournament. The tournament gives supporters and residents the opportunity to have fun and raise additional funds for a good cause. The event will be held this year on Monday, July 2 at Gettysvue Golf Course, 9317 Linksvue Drive.
“SOAR Youth Ministries is always looking for volunteers with a willing heart,” said Wood. “Jobs include meals, tutoring, reading and sports programs, worship team, field trip help and community outreach.”

What attracted you to Cellular Sales? What keeps you here? I have been recruiting for Cellular Sales since 2009, but only started working directly for Cellular Sales in 2011. I was approached by my previous company (a staffing firm) with this new opportunity to help a rapidly growing company staff their sales force. I had previously recruited sales members for a competitor, so I thought it would be very similar – I couldn’t have been more wrong! Once I learned the unique business model and how the sales team is compensated and treated, I was in awe! I couldn’t believe that a company finally [understood] how to treat their sales force, letting them make decisions and just do what they do best without all the rules and restrictions [unlike] other companies. [As a recruiter], I enjoyed selling people on [working for Cellular Sales] and when the opportunity [to join the company] presented itself, I couldn’t refuse. I stay because of the great team of people I work with – not just the ones in my office (who are awesome) but all the market recruiters and Regional Directors that I interact with daily. I think we all face some of the same challenges, and that’s continuing to find talented successful sales reps to fill our growing markets. This recruiting process involves completing an online application, submitting a resume, potentially three rounds of standardized, scored interviews along with a drug test and background check. We are looking for individuals who are honest, personally responsible, goal oriented, socially driven, socially confident, possess a hard work ethic and integrity, and have a servant’s heart. Although the process is meticulous, we believe we are able to select the right individuals that create a culture that needs minimal supervision, and provides an opportunity for our sales professionals to creatively care for their customers. The INC. 5000 award is presented to the fastest growing private companies in the United States. We were presented with the award again in 2013, making Cellular Sales a six time award winner! According to Dane Scism, are most important assets are our great people followed by our great locations.
In January of 2012, we adopted an employee model with our sales force. Originally, Cellular Sales contracted with small business owners. We have been intentional about keeping the culture of an entrepreneurial spirit, even with the change to the new model. The change was a result of a desire to provide additional training to our sales force and offering them and their families’ added benefits. Our hope is to also attract high caliber individuals that appreciate an employee model but still crave the independence and flexibility we still offer.
We are able to provide each new sales professionals with a specialized training experience. Professional training centers are located throughout the United States; each new trainee shadows existing reps on the sales floor, and attends sales training either in the local market or in a national training center. They return to their local market for additional training and receive a designated mentor to guide them through the remaining transitional period. Over the last three years, we have seen a success rate of almost 80% with trainees who successfully transition to the sales floor. Our goal is to design additional training programs that will assist all of our employees with personal and professional growth. Many areas work with outside sales consultants including Verizon Wireless and Apple professionals to assist in your professional development.

I really enjoy the business culture, team culture, and product culture. As jobs go this one is top shelf quality.
Our market needs a bit more oversight of sales reps. With no local management (everyone on sales floor is an authorized dealer) it's too easy for reps to be lazy. Team leads should be given a bit more management authority with their responsibilities.
Advice to Management
I recommend a closer watch at the store level. I aso recommend personal development training to accompany the product & systems training. Offer personal growth opportunities alongside the required other training modules.

I applied through an employee referral – interviewed at Cellular Sales.
The interview process was quick and only two interviews were scheduled before confirmation. The online application process was fast and easy. Questions asked during the interviews were standard - they asked about work history, experience, dealing with difficult customers, organizational abilities, and other usual topics. The recruiter was helpful and friendly but the given job description was inaccurate. The information provided by interviewers was incorrect.
