    I have been working at Christopher & Banks full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Up to 4 weeks vacation, 40 hours sick pay, flexibility, team atmosphere, exceptional customer service. Empowered to help customers. We have the best customers in the business. 50% off clothes and 6 items each month at 60%.

    Cons

    Little chance for promotion without relocating. No expenses paid for relocating. Low payroll and many hours spent alone in the store. Push for credit cards is becoming overwhelming. No matter how well you do in every category, if you don't meet your credit goal, you are a failure. The goals were attainable when first introduced, but now everyone who wants a card has one. There are not enough new customers to meet the new goals. This is the only thing that makes me want to leave on a daily basis, and I am good at selling the card. If you want your store to succeed, plan on working long hours for not enough pay. You have to love what you do to be happy here, because you won't get rich or recognized for your efforts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Listen go your management teams. We are in the stores working with the people every day. Without us you would not have happy customers. Back off on credit. Customers are starting to hate the push and it takes away from the overall image of the store. We are not fashion models who work in your stores. Yes we should be presentable and be put together, but everyone has their own individual style. If we all look the same we won't speak to everyone who comes in our doors. Let us wear comfortable shoes. Some of us are on our feet for 10 plus hours, without a break. The pictures you send for acceptable footwear are not something that work for this scenario. Don't set up your top stores for failure. We are already one of the lowest paid in the industry. Why make it impossible for your stores to bonus?
    Give us the payroll to give good customer service. We need training hours!! I hired a new full time person and had no hours to train her. On her third day she and I were alone and we did over $1000 in sales in an hour. This is so overwhelming for a new employee and for me. The customers did not receive the service they needed. There were no hours to call in another employee! We were already working short due to the Friends and Family event. 80 extra hours for a 10 day sale, with a goal equaling a month, and 5000 phone calls to make. I asked for even 10 hours to train and was told there were none. The following month my hours were CUT by 16! I love my job, but everyone has a breaking point.

    Needed 3 recommendations, questioned my references as if they were applying for a job. When I went in for interview is was comfortable and with only one person, the district manager. She was nice and uplifting. gave me false hope on available positions. She stated a position was available that was not.
