I have been working at Cincinnati History Museum full-time (More than 3 years)RecommendsPositive OutlookRecommendsPositive Outlook
Amazing environment, fabulous museums, a fun and friendly staff that is engaged and passionate. New CEO is well-liked and has aggressively tackled issues that have plagued the museum center for years.
Pay scale is way out of balance. Absurdly high expectations of staff making near minimum wage. High turnover means our best employees move on to better-paying institutions, while lower-performing staff are left behind. Lack of respect and communication between certain departments.
Advice to Management
Communication needs to be two ways, and there is a tendency not to listen to your operations staff. It needs to be recognized that these people are the face of the museum and the reason that our guests return so often (or do not). It would be beneficial to treat them with more respect and to compensate them accordingly. We suffer from rapid turnover which hurts morale and detracts from delivering on our quality standards.
