I have been working at City on a Hill Charter High School full-time (more than an year)Pros
--If you're thinking about teaching, the tutor program is a great way to explore the field.
--Great experience working closely with small groups of students.
--Great staff--passionate people who genuinely care about the mission of the school and helping urban youth access the tools to succeed in high school and beyond (sounds like something they'd put on their website but it is absolutely true.
--Yearlong experience is a great way to explore the education field, make connections, ask questions, etc.
--Opportunities to work with different ages. I worked with freshmen, sophomores, and juniors in various capacities.
--Opportunities to get involved leading extra curriculars (sometimes paid)
--Opportunities to stay with the school after program is completedCons
--Really really challenging (not that you don't know that going in)
--So much planning, so little time. It was really difficult to plan all lessons within the hour block provided each day. You often must plan outside of work hours in order to provide a lesson that will benefit your students most.
--The "stipend" is SO low. The position itself is challenging enough and the added stress of having no money was almost too much at times.Recommends
