Serving customers throughout the Americas, we are a leading U.S. tobacco organization and the U.S. division of Imperial Tobacco Group (ITG). One of the world’s top producers of high-quality tobacco products, ITG is an international enterprise with deep roots in the industry and a powerful track record of success on a global scale. ITG products are sold in more than 160 countries, and the company currently employs more than 36,000 employees, while operating 46 different manufacturing sites.
At Commonwealth-Altadis, we leverage the strength of our parent company and the value of our tobacco portfolio to deliver results – for our customers, for our employees, and for the future of our business.
Our portfolio of tobacco products includes some of the best-known brands in the U.S. and abroad, and it spans tobacco categories, including cigarettes, cigars, and tobacco. Covering all price groups – premium, mid-priced, and discount – our brands are both in demand and top of mind. They include: cigarette brands USA Gold, Montclair, Sonoma, Fortuna, Malibu, Davidoff Cigarettes, West and Rave; cigar brands Dutch Masters, Backwoods, Phillies, Tampa Nugget, White Cat, Grenadier, El Producto, Hav-A-Tampa, La Corona, Miami Suites, Muriel, Supre Sweets; and other tobacco products including Bali Shag, McClintock, Premier Tobacco, Gitane, Gauloises, Bull Durham Pipe Tobacco, Crowns, Rollit, El Rey, and e-z wider.
Our company is built on the remarkable history of two signature tobacco groups – Commonwealth Brands and Altadis. Both companies were acquired by ITG between 2007 and 2008, and the sales, marketing and operational expertise of Commonwealth and Altadis U.S.A. were joined in 2011, establishing a growth-focused organization. Both entities have brought essential strengths to our new combined business: recognized and popular brands, quality products and established sales and distribution networks.
We recognize that the strength of our organization derives from our people. More than 580 headquarters and sales employees, along with another 475 distribution and manufacturing employees in the United States, are the driving force behind our continued success, and we consistently dedicate the resources necessary to ensure that they are recognized and supported in their efforts. In addition to our corporate offices in Fort Lauderdale, we have distribution facilities in Tampa, Florida, and manufacturing centers in Reidsville, North Carolina, and McAdoo, Pennsylvania. Our off-shore manufacturing includes locations in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Honduras.
Our Commitment to Responsibility
As a tobacco company, we know that we must adhere to the highest standards of responsibility in the way that our products are marketed and sold. Every day millions of people choose to enjoy our tobacco products, but we recognize that as a global tobacco company, our products are the subject of significant debate. We also recognize the importance of manufacturing, marketing and selling our products in a way that is financially, socially and environmentally responsible. This understanding is an integral part of how we operate. We believe that adults have a choice about whether or not to smoke – and that consumers should have the freedom to make that choice. We stand up for our consumers by opposing unreasonable regulation and by championing their right to enjoy smoking. Our deep commitment to responsible operations is a reflection of our understanding of the risks associated with tobacco products, and equally a reflection of the positive values and high ethical standards that our company promotes every day.
We Are a Growth Market
Commonwealth-Altadis represents a significant growth market for ITG. We are also working to build a strong future for the communities where we live and work.

Our employees are committed to their work and to the mission of our company. Commonwealth-Altadis is equally committed to their development and well-being, and we strive to create a challenging and fulfilling workplace that engages and rewards team members. Here is what a few of our employees have to say about working at CA:
“ I began working in Product Development at Commonwealth-Altadis about a year ago. Despite undergoing several changes over the past few years, the office still exudes a warm/family-like atmosphere that seems to overcome the commotion associated with drastic change. The company is making big strides toward advancements in technology and innovation while also maintaining a sense of tradition and culture.”
- Jeremy D. (Packaging)
“ I love the professional and ethical business atmosphere, as well as the fellowship that I have experienced in the 15-plus years that I have been with the company, not to mention the excellent medical benefits. For example, in 2010, I went on a three-month disability, and during my recovery process it was very uplifting to continually receive cards, flowers, phone calls and text messages from my co-workers. The love and support from my supervisors and colleagues was simply exceptional, and knowing that all of my hospital expenses had been covered provided me with valuable peace of mind.
“ The team effort and human quality of my departmental colleagues is most valuable. A co-worker will be having surgery next week, and since he lives alone and his family is in another state, several of us in the department have teamed up to be there for him by helping with rides to and from the hospital and ordering lunch and dinner delivery during the first couple of days of his recovery.”
- Yaskary R. (Finance Department)
“ CA is a great company to work for. There a lot of opportunities to grow. For example, I started in customer service and eight months later took a position in the corporate affairs department. Individuals I work with do follow the values we have as a company, such as engaging each other, practicing the concept that ‘everything is possible’ and ‘together we win.’”
- Stephanie M. (Corporate Affairs)
Benefits and Learning
We are committed to providing our employees with a benefits package that is comprehensive and competitive. Our program offers health care coverage and financial security to employees and their families through a variety of plans designed to give employees a choice and flexibility.
Medical: Commonwealth-Altadis offers three medical plan options from Cigna. Each plan offers valuable benefits and includes prescription drug coverage, and in- and out-of-network plans.
Dental: The Solstice dental program gives employees the flexibility to choose from three dental plans. Preventive and certain diagnostic services are covered in full by all three plans.
Vision: The Solstice vision plan gives employees access to the Davis Vision Fashion Value provider network. Employees can also go out of network.
Flexible Spending Accounts: Employees who have expenses for health care or dependent day care that are paid out of pocket can consider enrolling in one or both of the flexible spending accounts to save money.
Life, Accident & Other Coverage: Commonwealth-Altadis also includes life, accidental death and dismemberment and disability insurance in its benefits package. All employees are automatically enrolled in company-paid basic life and accident dismemberment insurance equal to three times an employee’s annual salary.
Additional Voluntary Coverage: Many employees may want or need additional coverage, so the company offers voluntary additional coverage at affordable group rates for the employees, spouses and children.
Disability Benefits: Disability benefits help protect employees from the loss of income if the employee is unable to work for medical reasons (including maternity) or due to a non-work-related injury by replacing a portion of an employee’s pay for a certain period of time.
Voluntary Cancer, Critical Illness Coverage: We offer access to a variety of voluntary benefits that can provide additional support and peace of mind when it comes to protecting an employee and his or her family. Such coverage includes voluntary cancer and critical care illness coverage to provide additional benefits to pay expenses not covered by health care benefits.
Identity, Legal and Pet Insurance: CA offers an identity theft and legal program as well as pet insurance.
Learning at Commonwealth-Altadis
We believe that learning is a critical part of getting the job done – and essential to personal and professional success. Our training programs are testament to this belief.
The field sales team training programs, which have recently been expanded, work to align the skills of the company’s field force with overall key sales growth drivers. The goal in this effort is to help the sales team achieve their objective of being the number one supplier among fast moving consumer goods companies. Training, which is supported globally by Imperial Tobacco Group, focuses on deployment of our field force academy training, and the field force alignment initiatives. We are dedicated to creating one of the best sales teams in the industry.

I worked at Commonwealth-Altadis as an intern (less than an year)Pros
Being an international company, there are many opportunities to grow within the USA and outside. It was my first time in a manufacturing environment, and I had a great manager, very patient and knowledgeable. I would recommend this company to anyone any future interns - it's not one of those companies they ask you to make coffee, but I learnt a lot. Employees went to lunch together all the time and no talk of work allowed then:) A close unit besides the below I have included.Cons
I found that women were not in higher positions within the factory. I also sensed a friction between the international employees vs the USA employees. In this particular location I interned, there were not many opportunities, in fact jobs were dwindling.Advice to ManagementAdvice
I would suggest to not have such separation - internationals vs domestic employees. Being an intern, I could tell the internationals felt they knew it all, had done it all from other factories imperial tobacco owns, while the Americans had an attitude of, we know it all, we are the Americans. To management, as tough as it may have seemed, there was a common goal, for the betterment of the company and everyone involved, so get everyone on board.
