Complete Genomics is a leader in accurate whole human genomic sequencing based in Mountain View, California. Using our proprietary sequencing instruments, chemistry, and software, we have sequenced more than 15,000 whole human genomes for our research customers over the past three years. Our mission is to provide the technology for sequencing one million human genomes, enabling researchers and clinicians to improve human health through the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of genetic diseases and conditions.
Complete Genomics was founded in 2006 by Dr. Clifford Reid and Dr. Radoje (Rade) Drmanac. It is currently a company of 200+ employees spanning multiple specialties: genomics, hardware engineering, biochemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics, software, semiconductors, and operations.
In March 2013 Complete Genomics was acquired by BGI-Shenzhen, the world’s largest genomics services company. BGI is a 4,000-person company headquartered in Shenzhen, China that provides comprehensive sequencing and bioinformatics services for commercial science, medical, agricultural and environmental applications. BGI and its customers have generated over 250 publications in top-tier journals including Cell, Science, and Nature. BGI is recognized globally as an innovator for conducting collaborative projects globally with leading research institutions.
Prior to the acquisition by BGI, Complete Genomics was focused on selling whole genome sequencing services to over 150 research customers. After the acquisition, Complete Genomics transferred its research services business to BGI Tech, BGI’s research services business unit. Complete Genomics is now focused on building a new generation of high-throughput sequencing technology and developing new and exciting research, clinical and consumer applications.

Proprietary Sequencing Technology
Our sequencing service uses a proprietary custom-built sequencing platform developed by Complete Genomics. This platform is a result of technological advancements in DNA library manufacturing, DNA nanoarrays, sequencing chemistry, instrumentation and software (Drmanac, et al., Science 2010; Carnevali, et al., J Comp Biol 2012). The accuracy of Complete Genomics’ novel sequencing chemistry, combined with advanced algorithms for mapping and assembly, provides high-quality data (99.9998% accurate) ready for biological interpretation, and at a much lower cost than the total cost of purchasing and operating DNA sequencing instruments.
Through the dedication and hard work of our employees, Complete is working towards a lasting impact in the genomics and health fields. The company spans multiple specialties: genomics, biochemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics, software, hardware engineering, semiconductors, operations, research and development, and others.
Employees live by our company values which focus on our customers, innovation, commitment to our word, teamwork, timely decisions, and operational excellence. Complete is an inclusive, collaborative environment with fun socials and company events, regular communication forums, and community program involvement. We are looking for people who thrive in a challenging, fast-paced environment, who are team oriented, self-motivated, and committed to contributing to the success of our company.
Complete Genomics’ Reward Package includes base compensation and incentive-based compensation (bonus/equity programs). Complete Genomics offers its eligible employees and their dependents (including domestic partners) a comprehensive and competitive benefits package.

Generally the office culture seemed great, I really liked the CEO, and I liked my bossCons
The health biotech industry in general is a bit of a crapshoot, with all the insane patent fights, challenges in getting sufficient funding, etc.Advice to ManagementAdvice
Need some sort of "carrot & stick" to better reward the areas that function well and re-align those that keep missing targets. The "stick" should not be punishment, IMHO, but either more employees or different leaders in those areas.Approves of CEO
