I worked at Consumer United full-time (more than an year)Pros
If you are considering a career in sales, Consumer United (now Goji) should be on your list of companies to look into. This is a young company with energy and vision. It offers a unique value proposition to its customers, and therefore, an advantageous position for its sales agents.
Consumer United/Goji is an agency for multiple, big-name, insurance companies. The agents have the ability to match each customer with the best insurer for his or her needs quickly and efficiently, using software that provides real quotes based on the customer’s actual data in combination with the agent’s professional judgment.
This is a company that invests in its employees. Taking employees from being new hires to professional insurance agents is a multiphase process. The company assists new hires in obtaining their individual producer licenses (there used to be a class; I don’t know whether this has changed), and handles licensing in the states in which they will be selling. After the licensing tests have been passed, there is extensive classroom training (with plenty of hands-on and practice) followed by time in the “incubator,” a sales environment with support in which new agents can develop before moving to their sales teams. The entire process is designed to provide people with the knowledge and skills they need to be successful, to set them up for success.
This is a national agency with offices located in Massachusetts, therefore, customers work with the agents over the phone, not face-to-face. The agents are provided with leads, a benefit, and the leads are contacted by a dialer. As with any sales position, metrics are important.
Here, you will find an opportunity to grow professionally and personally: you will enjoy extensive training, qualified leads, unique technology, becoming a seasoned professional, and becoming an integral part of a sales team. In addition, the company strives to create a comfortable environment with areas to relax, play, and even watch TV; there are regular social events. This is a “flat” company, senior management is readily accessible. You will be expected to work hard, work smart, and do the best you can for both your customers and the insurance companies. You will do well by doing good: this company promotes from within, so the opportunity extends far beyond entry-level sales.
This is a commissioned sales position, there is a base. The benefits are comprehensive.Cons
At the time that I was there, the commission structure was being reviewed; I assume that this has been resolved.RecommendsPositive OutlookApproves of CEO

Getting an Interview
- Application Details
I applied through a recruiter. The process took a week – interviewed at Consumer United.Interview Details
Went to a job fair, met a recruiter. Got called up the next day for a phone interview. OnceIi passed that, they sent me an email for an online skills test. I passed that pretty easily so I got an in-person interview a few days later. Was a pretty basic interview. No surprises. Basic questions. Nice people. All in all, the whole process took about a week.Interview Questions
