At Covance, we understand, respect and value differences. We know that embracing the skills, cultures, ideas and experiences of every employee around the world gives us a clear competitive advantage. Our diverse perspectives make us a more insightful partner and reveal new opportunities for our clients.

Our Employee Resource Groups range from advocates and allies for women, parents and veterans to our GLO (Gay, Lesbian, Other) group; and from our GoGreen Committee to our Diversity Awareness Committee(s). Many members partner with local volunteer organizations too, building awareness and strengthening our bond with our communities.

Our groups are united in purpose to:

  • Create networking opportunities for employees with a common interest or culture.
  • Strengthen our commitment to an inclusive working environment.
  • Attract, develop, grow and retain proactive, insightful talent.
  • Increase awareness of and respect for diversity and inclusion.
  • Generate learning opportunities.
  • Serve as ambassadors who deliver on Covance’s mission.

We share your respect for the environment and are committed to integrity, diversity, inclusion and philanthropy.

They’re not just good business practices. They make a difference and they’re the right things to do. We bring these core values to life in our business practices, in our relationships with our clients and strategic partners, and in our community. We believe helping improve people’s lives is our responsibility as well as our business, and we are committed to it.

We recruit top talent from universities around the world. Technical excellence in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) discipline is vital. But so are thought leadership, integrity, critical thinking, global perspective and creativity. If you’re keen to grow in a fast-paced, client-focused environment, find out how we prepare you for great things ahead.

Former Employee - Vice President in Princeton, NJ

I worked at Covance full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Take people matters seriously (training and development, career development, feedback)
Long term business successes (reflected in stock price)
"Nice" working environment (at least in larger offices - respectful, collaborative, collegial)
    Strong benefits package
    Competitive compensation
    Strong "pay for performance" culture
    Leadership continuity

    Cons

Still a financially-driven organization (financial implications of decisions a point of emphasis for management)
Often business decisions are made with a short term view (in terms of meeting quarterly results)
Tho the leadership team is overall effective majority have been in their roles for ~8-10 years and inertia (re: direction, strategies and decisions) exists
    Weak infrastructure (particularly IT)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Balance a longer-term view when making decisions and assessing opportunities (even if there is a short term hit) over the current predominant quarterly focus
Consider some "new blood" (external to Covance) for select future leadership roles
Make it "easier" for employees to work at Covance (in tangible and meaningful ways)

    Program Specialist Interview

    Application Details

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Covance in October 2010.

    Interview Details

I applied online and my initial interview was done by phone. Within about a week I heard back from the recruiter and was scheduled for a panel interview. There were three people from Senior management that conducted the interview; it was in targeted selection format (hint: this is the format for all of the companies interviews, apparently). I was hired as a Program Specialist a week after my panel interview. Once hired I learned that typically for the Call Center Department all employees were typically first temporary staff hired through a staffing agency and then hired as a full time employee after at least working for 1 year or more temporarily.
