I worked at DES Architects Engineers

    Pros

Opportunities to work on a range of project sizes and types. Supportive of employee training and education. Good benefits. Allows for growth in areas of interest such as sustainable design. Good access to public transportation (train).

    Cons

Types of project / clients limited by size of firm and firm expertise. Not viewed as expert in any one project type but generalist in many types. All disciplines are not supported equally.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better define what company is and grow in that direction. Focus on becoming more expert in certain markets / project types. Do a better job of retaining talent.

I applied online. The process took a dayinterviewed at DES Architects Engineers in August 2012.

    Interview Details

I saw their job post on Craigslist and sent in my resume and cover letter. I heard back from them a little over a month later. When they contacted me they asked if I could come in the following week for an interview and I did. The interview was rather short. I was interviewed by the head of the department and her assistant at the same time. I wasn't made aware that I was going to be interviewed by two people for the interview, so I was a little surprised by that. It took less than 15 minutes and the interview was rather informal. For the most part, they asked me basic interview questions and told me to tell them about myself. After the interview, which seemed kind of rushed, they offered me a quick tour of the place. Once the tour concluded I was told that they are looking to hire someone for the position within the next couple of days and that they would let me know by the end of the week. Even though I had a rather pleasant interview experience with them, I felt that it was unprofessional of them to never contact me to let me know that I was not chosen for the position. .
