I have been working at Daimler Trucks North America full-time (more than an year)Pros
They are definitely making changes to make things a better workplace. They have great benefits, salaried employees get 4 weeks vacation to start plus the 13 paid holidays (it includes a week off at Christmas). There is always something going on and they do have interesting projects to work on. People are friendly and easy to work with and willing to help you out or show you what to do.Cons
There is still a bit of the "old" Freightliner mentality left over. Which is don't bother me with your problems, I'm only concerned with mine. Usually employees know about things before management announces it to everyone, which can be a bit frustrating sometimes.Advice to ManagementAdvice
They are trying to open up communication but they still need to do a better job sometimes.RecommendsPositive OutlookApproves of CEO
Getting an Interview
Getting an Interview
- Application Details
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks – interviewed at Daimler Trucks North America in June 2014.Interview Details
Initially, I was interviewed by phone and asked a series of questions. She then let me know that she'd give me another phone call the following week to schedule an in-person interview. I received the call the following week and was scheduled to meet for the interview at their corporate office (wasn't a very convenient location, nor where I'd be working if offered a position). It was a behavioral interview and it only took about 30-45 minutes. There, I was asked another series of questions by her and another employer. She had a list of questions and wrote all of my answers down.
Overall, the interview went pretty well. I answered most of the questions confidently (a few times hearing one of them say they liked my answer) and was qualified for the position. The corporate company building was nice and it seemed like a very nice environment. However, the company is known for hiring only within or hiring employees' children first. This was the case.
Two weeks later I received a rejection letter informing me that the position had been filled. An inside source from the company informed me that another employee's child had been interviewed over the phone and was offered the position immediately. No OfferNegative ExperienceEasy Interview
What moves you? For Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA), it's a rhetorical question. The subsidiary of German automaker Daimler AG is North America's #1 heavy-duty truck maker for long hauls. In addition to the familiar Freightliner brand, DTNA makes commercial vehicles under the Western Star nameplate, and manufactures school buses under the Thomas Built brand. Operations include Freightliner Custom Chassis, which makes chassis for motor homes, delivery vans, and buses, and Detroit Diesel, a builder of medium- and heavy-duty diesel engines and components.
