I worked at Dalbar full-time (more than 10 years)

The majority of the people who work here are great. Since it's such a small company (less than 50 people) you get to know your co-workers well and they become like a second family.

One of the Directors manages by instilling fear, which tends to pervade the work environment at times. The President seems not to involve himself with the daily operations of the company and allows a lot to go on that he may/may not even be aware of. There is a general lack of accountability and a lot of favoritism when it comes to special arrangements, such as special work hours and the ability (or not) to work from home. Upper management tends to base recognition, raises and promotions on their personal perception of you, versus reality. There is very little in the way of career path development. Reviews/promotions/raises are spotty at best. Since there is no real Board of Directors, and since the company is private, there is very little accountability and reinforcement to ensure that all employees are treated equally and fairly. Wages are not competitive within the industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Everyone should be offered the same benefits and opportunities across the board, regardless of gender, race, motherhood/fatherhood, friendship with management, etc. More should be done to ensure timely performance reviews and compensation. A competitive analysis should be made to ensure that wages are on par with the industry. Favoritism should be abolished completely, so that every employee feels that they are treated fairly and equitably. Too many opinions are made based upon perception of someone's ability, attitude, etc., resulting in the stunting of career growth for some. Aspire towards transparency and fairness.
