Bringing Science to the Art of Marketing

DataXu was founded by MIT aeronautics and astronautics scientists who wrote the combinatorial language that guided NASA’s Mars mission plans. These scientists – joined by co-founders with extensive digital media and consumer electronics expertise – examined potential commercial applications that would benefit from a system that could make real-time decisions. They knew that a huge opportunity existed in marketing, being disrupted by the consumer digital lifestyle and big data, but still operating with manual solutions based on intuition, as well as an inefficient supply chain.

The founding team recruited the smartest people they knew to create DataXu as it is today – an open, neutral platform that enables marketers to use our ‘rocket science‘ in a simple UI to understand and engage consumers in a digital world.     Pros

    DataXu has completely exceeded my expectations. The work I do each day is new and exciting and I get to grow both professionally and personally just by working with some of the most intelligent, down-to-earth people I’ve ever met. I love the team atmosphere that DataXu has, no one will turn you away if you have a “quick” question or even a whole presentation to work through, they all really want to help each other out

    As a person who didn’t know much about programmatic marketing (even while being interviewed), I felt extremely intimated walking in my first week. For the first month, I felt like people were talking in a language I would never understand. Now, a year later, I am so happy and thankful to be a part of this fast-paced, challenging, increasingly popular industry.

    Even without the perks, (catered lunch, unlimited PTO, casual dress code, free snacks/drinks, free concerts, team outings, and summer/holiday company parties), DataXu would still be an amazing place to work because of the people and culture. Suffice it to say, I’m pretty lucky to call this my job.

    Cons

    The busy work for lower-level positions can be tedious at times, but you need to learn how to do those things before working your way up. The managers make sure that your work/life balance is at a good place and that you're not overwhelmed.

    I applied through a recruiter – interviewed at DataXu (Boston, MA) in April 2015.

    Interview

    Initially was contacted by the recruiter through Linkedin. Later was setup a 30mins phone interview with one of their UI engineering team. I did not hear from them for a week. When i did a quick followup, recruiter asked me to call later evening. I am not quiet sure as this was the first time when a recruiter asked the candidate to call. I thought this was quiet unprofessional. When called, recruiter told me that i need to learn a lot and is ready to offer internship for 6 months and later convert it to full-time. Again, when recruiter himself connected with me on Linkedin for full time and whar they offer me is internship. And the person who interviewed says i need to learn a lot just in 30 mins interview where i answered all of his questions spot on!

    It was very bad experience. I thought of going further from the initial call just because of its good reviews on glassdoor and i somewhat liked the work they are into.

    Overall, very bad experience.
