I worked at David J. Joseph full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The work environment is very relaxed. From the IT Director down everyone is approachable. I was approached by the CEO Keith Grass within the first month of employment and he, just like everyone else, is very easy going and takes the time to get to know you.

    Cons

Lower salaries than competitors in the area.Mostly parallel advancement with only four steps from the bottom to the top.

    Application Details

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks - interviewed at David J. Joseph in February 2014.

    Interview Details

There was fist contact via phone to set up another 20 minute phone interview the next week. After that, they scheduled another phone interview for the following week. On the day of (or perhaps, one day before) the phone interview they sent an e-mail letting me know they were going to skip the phone interview and would just bring me in the next week. The in-person interview was relaxed and took roughly 2 hours (30 minutes per person). Two weeks from the in-person interview they sent a final e-mail informing me that they chose another candidate.
Seems like a fantastic company. Everyone was super friendly and respectful. I loved the place so much that if they made even a decent offer, I would have accepted.

Since it has been in business since the 19th century, it's probably fair to say that The David J. Joseph Company (DJJ) has been in a scrap or two. One of the largest scrap-metal brokerage operations in the US, DJJ recycles both ferrous (iron and steel) and nonferrous metals (copper, aluminum, lead, and brass) worldwide. To accomplish this feat, the company operates about 60 scrap processing centers (including 15 car shredders) and about a dozen trading offices in the US. Its shredders can process up to a million car hulks each year. DJJ had been a subsidiary of Dutch... More
