Dollar General is an exciting place these days.
Not only is the shopping experience the best it has ever been, our rapid growth has created tremendous career opportunities throughout the company. DG employees find career success and personal gratification by making a difference in the lives of our customers and in the communities we serve. We operate more than 11,000 stores in both large and small communities. Those stores are successful because our Associates are comprised of friends and neighbors who carry out the spirit of our mission: serving others.
We will continue to grow and thrive with individuals who have a desire to serve, a drive to excel and a determination to succeed. Find out if you have what it takes to succeed on our team.
Customer focus is the driving force behind our operations and support functions. Our founders led this charge at Dollar General's inception, and it has been translated into a statement of purpose for the organization.
Sales Associate applications are accepted online or at our stores. Individual stores hire and manage their own part-time and full-time employees.
We think of our corporate headquarters as the Store Support Center, because the different departments are here to support store employees that deliver quality products and service to our customers every day. The Store Support Center is located in Goodlettsville, TN, 16 miles north of Nashville. You'll enjoy a dynamic, fast-paced environment where each and every day, you'll encounter new and exciting challenges. Dollar General has many moving parts to meet customers' needs, along with an aggressive growth strategy. This requires innovative thinkers and people who challenge our organization to operate more efficiently and effectively in multiple fields.
Distribution Center Careers
The distribution network is an integral component of our retail business operation, as nearly all items that reach our store shelves pass through one of our 9 distribution centers. Distribution Center employees are responsible for receiving, warehousing, and shipping the products you see in our stores every day. The Distribution Centers accept hourly applications locally, which are clerical and material handling positions.

The ERGs provide networking opportunities with peers and executive management, cultural awareness events, and professional development.
Dollar General continues to challenge me to be the best merchant and team player that I can be. Some of the best merchants in the country work here and exposure to their thought processes and insight allows me to learn and grow everyday.
Moving to Nashville from another region of the country, has provided a better quality of life for myself and my family.

I love the fast pace of the SSC and that there is always a new project/service that DG is implementing so my job is never monotonous. Striving to deliver quality processes and support to our field partners and stores keeps me motivated and helps me fulfill the company's mission of serving others.
The people are amazing! In such a large company, it’s refreshing to see a camaraderie that is more like family. We are all working toward a common goal and it is great to see how well people and departments work together to accomplish what is set forth in front of them.
I am a member of the DGYP ERG at Dollar General. It’s nice to be connected to a group of people with similar interests and goals without the pressure of being required to commit to every event. We offer so many different opportunities to get involved that there truly is something for everyone. And each event is different; everything from networking to educational to sporting events – the spectrum is broad!
Based upon the company’s strong market position and continued expansion, I felt confident that by joining the Dollar General team I could continue to advance my career and build upon my education and previous experience.

Dollar General has a great corporate environment. The facilities are wonderful with free covered parking, on-site cafeteria, day care, and subsidized fitness center. The corporate sponsored events available at the SSC provide a great opportunity to network with other departments.
As I transitioned out of the military, I hoped to find a career with more stability and a normal schedule. After working at the SSC, I can see that Dollar General genuinely values the well-being and work-life balance of its employees. The additional benefits of amenities such as an on-site fitness center and full-service café make the SSC a truly enjoyable place to work.

DG wants to be more than in par with its competition; it is equipped with a well evolving IT infrastructure, and constantly improving/creating tools to improve systems for our end user. It is amazing to think that I am a part of this rapidly evolving environment and learning while adapting to new platforms. I feel that I am in the right place at the right time.

The atmosphere is like working with family and friends. It has a small home town feeling about it unlike those larger retail stores.
Not enough hours supplied at times to cover the task that's required. I personally would like to see a couple more cash registers and cashiers. Sometimes the lines get extremely long.
Advice to Management
Think about adding a couple more registers to the stores. Five o'clock traffic and weekends can bring in more income if they can be checked out more quickly.

Did my application on Friday, got a call on Monday to come in on a Tuesday at 2pm.. I met the manager he was pretty nice and cool! He asked me about my availability, my retail experience & he basically told me that I was hired, but the human resources had to review my application and that they would send me my hourly wage based on my experience and that I would get the rest of the hiring packet in my email & if I pass my background check he will give me a call back.. The hiring process basically takes 2-3 weeks
