I worked at Dow Corning as an intern for less than a year

I thoroughly enjoyed my time as a summer intern at Dow Corning. While working there, I did not meet a single person I disliked - when they talk about a great company culture, they've really got it. Safety is a huge priority at their sites, which I'm sure many of the engineers and operators appreciate greatly. Finally, even as an intern, I got the chance to be relevant and impactful as part of my team.

There are two cons I see, as a soon-to-be-graduating engineer:
    1) The location: unfortunately, Midland MI is not a huge attraction for a lot of young engineers. It's a pretty small place, with little other activity besides Dow and Dow Corning.
    2) The silicone industry is starting to grow over in China, and as a result, the market is becoming a lot more competitive. I don't believe Dow Corning will fail any time soon, but young engineers may want to reconsider whether they want to pursue this industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The numerous reorganizations don't seem encouraging or reassuring to the workforce.

Dow Corning knows about cooperation. The company began as a joint venture of chemical titan Dow and glass giant Corning in 1943 and ranks among the longest-lasting partnerships of its kind in the US. Dow Corning produces more than 7,000 silicone-based products such as adhesives, insulating materials, and lubricants for aerospace, automotive, and electrical uses. Because silicone does not conduct electricity, it is also used in its hard polycrystalline form (silicon) as the material on which semiconductors are built. Its products are also used in the production of... More
